CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN

WELL-MADE LEADERSHIP

Participants who successfully complete 85% of program expectations will receive a certificate naming them a Well-Made Leader from the Office of Diversity at Kansas State University.

State-Wide Leadership Conferences

One Project IMPACT program is a day-long state-wide leadership conference: one for Hispanic students and one for African American students.

Leadership Sessions

There will be eight (8) sessions of leadership and youth development content based on a holistic or wellness approach to leadership, the idea that leaders can be made or created, and that leaders exercise informed decision-making about key life choices.

College for a Day

The Project IMPACT College for a Day Institutes are part of a suite of programs designed to expose multicultural youth to the value of pursuing a college education for themselves and their communities; to provide them opportunities in some of the most highly sought-after majors at Kansas State University; to support their success through scholarships and other methodologies; and to graduate them world-ready, socially aware, and culturally grounded.

KHAN Academy

Program participants will be helped to reallocate a minimum of eight (8) hours a week, normally spent on social media, to participation in the Khan Academy of Online Learning.  This amazing and free website has literally hundreds of academic tutorials on all major junior and high school subjects that have been broken down into user-friendly, self-paced learning videos.  Participants engage easily with the videos, are tested at regular intervals, and advance only after mastery has been achieved. Improving academic performance is a key objective of the proposed program, and the Khan Academy will become the tutorial strategy that is used for this purpose.

Community Service &

Urban Gardening

Participants in Project IMPACT Leadership Programs will be expected to engage in community service and urban gardening projects.  If participants are working, they will be exempt from the requirements of the component.  If they are not working, they will be expected to complete 40 hours over the course of a year volunteering and/or working on their group’s urban gardening project.  Community service and the urban garden have benefits in their own right, but these activities will also productively engage young people and strengthen their attachment to the community.
